- Norman Lear is best known for creating Archie Bunker, a loudmouthed, racist reactionary from Queens who disdains his wife and dotes on his daughter, intended as a satire of his type but who was instead adored by them, does not want to hang out with his White House spin-off longer than necessary. He will not be attending the traditional White House reception before the Honors.
- Some headlines are reporting that he's boycotting the honors entirely, because apparently other people read worse than ONTD
- Honoree Gloria Estefan says that she will use the reception as an opportunity to challenge Trump on anti-immigrant backlash.
- The honorees traditionally sit in the Presidential Box at the Kennedy Center, so that should be a fun experience for them.
