IOC OFFICIALLY Announces Paris Will Get 2024 Games, LA Will Host 2028

Los Angeles has agreed to let Paris host the 2024 Olympics so they can host the 2028 Olympics.

The agreement has been in negotiations for months ever since the 2024 Olympics was narrowed down to LA and Paris. Due to the strong bids from both cities, the IOC took the unusual step of awarding two games at once.

LA will host the games for the third time. Paris will host it's second games, 100 years after their first time hosting in 1924.

Serena Williams writes op-ed for black women's equal pay day

  • Talks about how black women only make 63 cents for every dollar white men make

  • She faced prejudice growing up and people told her she wouldn't make it because she was a black woman

  • Thinks the current biggest obstacle towards getting equal pay is the lack of awareness

  • Black women: Be fearless. Speak out for equal pay. Every time you do, you’re making it a little easier for a woman behind you. Most of all, know that you’re worth it. It can take a long time to realize that. It took me a long time to realize it. But we are all worth it. I’ve long said, “You have to believe in yourself when no one else does.”

Blake Lively On Opportunities for Women in Hollywood, the US Election and Raising Daughters

- talks about producing and acting in the adaptation of liane moriarty's book the husband's secret; says that it's important to portray complicated women in films. she believes it's important for women to produce films and advocate for themselves, but also compliments the men in the industry who are drawn to women's stories or "look at the numbers" and see that these films (like wonder woman) are successful
- says that the 2016 us election made her "more conscious" and "more sensitive" - "not just of sexism but of discrimination in all areas—class, gender, race." highlights her work fighting human trafficking: "You see [stories about] only the wealthy, middle-class white girls who’ve been kidnapped. There are people missing all the time, and because they’re minorities, because they come from impoverished neighborhoods, they don’t make the news. That is so devastating."
- discusses the experience of raising daughters without projecting insecurities - doesn't tell them they can achieve anything because she thinks that even bringing it up makes them doubt themselves since "we're all born feeling perfect until somebody tells us we're not." says that the experience has made her more conscious of language. talks about how ryan reynolds is also conscious of this, doesn't like the word bossy being used to describe women.

Inclusion and Diversity in Hollywood - Little Has Risen Over 10 Years

  • 31.4% of speaking characters were female (No gender or orientation breakdowns re: that)

  • 2.7% of characters had disabilities.

  • Male gay characters' in speaking roles went from 19 in 2015 to 36 in 2016.

  • 70.8% of speaking roles were white in 2016. There was also an uptick in underrepresented racial or ethnic groups in animation, but that was attributable to just two films, “Moana” and “Kubo and the Two Strings.”

  • Not including 2011 for some reason, only 34 unique female directors released films between 2007 and 2016.

'Killjoys' creator Michelle Lovretta and actress Mayko Nguyen talk Delleela

For anyone who hasn't watched Friday's episode of Killjoys was a whirlwind. Not only did the episode feature fan favorite Fancy Lee (in his best story to date) and Delle Seyah Kendry, but it included homages to both Die Hard and Star Wars, kick ass action, character death, a cold open featuring pegging of all things and Delleela (Delle Seyah Kendry / Aneela) becoming canon.

Since season one of Killjoys fans have talked about the undeniable chemistry between Mayko Nguyen's Delle Seyah and Hannah John-Kamen's Dutch. However, at the end of season two with Delle Seyah seemingly killed at the hands of Johnny it obviously seemed like that ship had long sailed... that is until Delle Seyah is resurrected and essentially made immortal at the hands of villain Aneela (also played by John-Kamen).

"I had no idea that I was coming back until close to the third season..." Mayko Nguyen told The TV Junkies in a recent interview. "This year though, Delle Seyah definitely plays a much bigger part."

Nguyen also spoke of Delle Seyah's relationship with Dutch and while she loved the will they or won't they aspect and wondering where they were going to go, Aneela is much more on Delle Seyah's level.

"It's like Delle Seyah finally met someone she felt worth of following and it gives her a sort of ... calm stability. She's been topped, so to speak, and she kinda likes it, at least for now. Actually, she likes it a LOT. Her old life was pre planned for her by her ancestors, and now on this ship everything is new and exciting and anything is possible if Aneela wills it so. That's pretty seductive," Lovretta said to The TV Junkies. "I don't mean to suggest that Delle Seyah is some lovestruck moppet, not at all. This is early, tentative days. She's still a viciously brilliant tactitian who knows power equals security - but Aneela IS power. And instead of trying to fight someone else's status, for once, Delle Seyah wants to invest in and support it and nurture it."

She went on to say that essentially Delle Seyah is becoming the Johnny to Aneela's Dutch in terms of encouragement... but sexier and with more kissing and murder.

The city is dangerous, littered with discarded experiments from the Company—a biotech firm now derelict—and punished by the unpredictable predations of a giant bear. Rachel ekes out an existence in the shelter of a run-down sanctuary she shares with her partner, Wick, who deals his own homegrown psychoactive biotech. One day, Rachel finds Borne during a scavenging mission and takes him home. Borne as salvage is little more than a green lump—plant or animal?—but exudes a strange charisma. There is an attachment she resents: in this world any weakness can kill you. Yet, against her instincts—and definitely against Wick’s wishes—Rachel keeps Borne. But as Borne grows, he begins to threaten the balance of power in the city and to put the security of her sanctuary with Wick at risk. For the Company, it seems, may not be truly dead, and new enemies are creeping in. What Borne will lay bare to Rachel as he changes is how precarious her existence has been, and how dependent on subterfuge and secrets. In the aftermath, nothing may ever be the same.

The Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi
Our universe is ruled by physics and faster than light travel is not possible -- until the discovery of The Flow, an extra-dimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transport us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It’s a hedge against interstellar war -- and a system of control for the rulers of the empire. The Flow is eternal -- but it is not static. Just as a river changes course, The Flow changes as well, cutting off worlds from the rest of humanity. When it’s discovered that The Flow is moving, possibly cutting off all human worlds from faster than light travel forever, three individuals -- a scientist, a starship captain and the Empress of the Interdependency -- are in a race against time to discover what, if anything, can be salvaged from an interstellar empire on the brink of collapse.

Based on the stories of real women, the series follows Margaret Wells and her daughters as she struggles to reconcile her roles as mother and brothel owner. When her business comes under attack from Lydia Quigley, a rival madam with a ruthless streak, Margaret will fight back, even if it means putting her family at risk.

In case you haven't seen it yet, it's written, directed and produced by women, starring a diverse female cast, without making the sex work titillating or exploitative. There's not even that much nudity, I think I've seen more male butts than boobs.

ONTD Original: 'Are You Afraid of the Dark?' secrets revealed

L-R: Moderator, DJ MacHale, Ron Oliver

At Saturday's Midsummer Scream horror convention in Long Beach, CA, Are You Afraid of the Dark? showrunner/co-creator DJ MacHale and director/writer Ron Oliver reunited to discuss the series.

-The series was originally conceived as bedtime stories for lazy parents, hosted by an elderly famous actor. Eventually focus shifted from bedtime stories to scary stories, and since the concept of an old man telling children scary stories seemed too creepy, the Midnight Society was born.

-DJ MacHale was offered the chance to be showrunner for PBS's Ghostwriter right when AYAOTD was picked up as a series. Preferring to be in charge of a show he had created, he chose the latter.

-A different Midnight Society starred in the original 1990 pilot (The Tale of the Twisted Claw), in which Ross Hull played emo kid David instead of bespectacled 30-year-old virgin Gary.

-Ryan Gosling was the original choice to play David in the Midnight Society, but was under contract to Disney/the Mickey Mouse Club when the show was picked up in 1992. They settled for casting him in an episode years later - Season 5's The Tale of Station 109.9. (Director Ron Oliver would later cast Gosling in the Goosebumps episode, 'Say Cheese and Die')

-Jay Baruchel (The Tale of the Dead Man's Float) was a favorite of the showrunners and thus brought back several more times for the series revival.

-Hayden Christensen's (The Tale of Bigfoot Ridge) acting was so bad that the footage was nearly unusable and required heavy editing to salvage anything. Ron Oliver refused to cast him in Goosebumps because of this.

Drake Bell says he regrets coming for Josh Peck on Twitter over not getting a wedding invitation

In June, Drake Bell called out Josh Peck on Twitter after finding out that his former co-star was getting married and that he was apparently not invited. He wrote, "True colors have come out today. Message is loud and clear. Ties are officially cut. I’ll miss you brother.” He later added, "Loyalty is key. ALWAYS remember where you came from."

Yesterday during a Facebook Live chat with Entertainment Weekly, Drake talked about the snub and said he regrets having gone after Josh publicly. "We've been together 18 years, Josh and me, me and Josh. We've been so close, it was just one of those things where you know, I'd been talking to him, and he's been telling me about the engagement. And then I saw on social media, the wedding, and I didn't hear about it. So, it was just one of those things where it was just like, 'You didn't even tell me?! I had to find out on social media?' And then you're like, 'You know what!? Fine!’ And then I'm like, wait, I probably shouldn't have done that. I should have just texted that to him, you know. I was just being cranky. It is what it is, dude. I love the kid. No hard feelings.”

Josh hasn't talked about the fight publicly, but a "source" told Us Weekly that he was annoyed by Drake's tweets: “Josh told everyone that he and Drake hadn’t spoken in years. They would tweet each other back on social media a couple times a year, but never actually spoke. They aren’t close anymore and Josh had a very small wedding.”

Dog rescuer says Lisa Vanderpump stiffed her out of $32K

· Lizzie Scherer of Saving Spot dog rescue says the Vanderpumps, who were supporters of her rescue, agreed to basically buy her out of her rescue because they were looking for rental space. Scherer says the agreement was that Ken would pay rent on her facility for 3 years and offer her a job within their rescue
· Ken never paid her rent but offered one month's rent if Scherer would sign a NDA and let the Vanderpumps out of the deal
· Lisa, who runs Vanderpump Dogs rescue, says they helped pay her rent out of their love for dogs and that Saving Spot was a mess. Vanderpump's rep says Scherer was unable to run her rescue to the Vanderpumps' standards. Saving Spot lost their non-profit status in 2015, which Scherer blames on an administrative error. Their non-profit status has been reinstated but Scherer's rescue is still expected to shut down. Scherer's considering legal action

1 week after his death, Chester Bennington’s wife Talinda releases statement on his passing

"7/27/17
One week ago, I lost my soulmate and my children lost their hero-their Daddy. We had a fairytale life and now it has turned into some sick Shakespearean tragedy. How do I move on? How do I pick up my shattered soul? The only answer I know is to raise our babies with every ounce of love I have left. I want to let my community and the fans worldwide know that we feel your love. We feel your loss as well. My babies are so young to have lost their daddy. And I know that all of you will help keep his memory alive. He was a bright, loving soul with an angel’s voice. And now he is pain free singing his songs in all of our hearts. May God Bless us all and help us turn to one another when we are in pain. Chester would’ve wanted us to do so. Rest In Peace, my love.

Always,
Mrs.Talinda Bennington"

Newspaper columnist fired after writing anti-semitic (and sexist) article

'Controversialist' Kevin Myers, writing in the Sunday Times Irish edition about the BBC pay disparity, suggested TV and Radio presenters Vanessa Feltz and Claudia Winkleman were more highly paid because they are Jewish.

Myers was objecting to the call by high-profile BBC women employees that the corporation do something to tackle the gender pay gap.

His article, entitled 'Sorry Ladies, but equal pay has to be earned' was circulated widely on Twitter:

Myers, who belongs to that group of opinion writers who exist to cater to the worst instincts of the very worst people, must now seek employment elsewhere.
