Jack Antonoff & Ruby Rose Donate to Fund for LGBTQ Texans Displaced by Harvey

Str8 ppl were pissed by this:

When I first looked up where to send money, people said Salvation Army and Samaritan's Purse was an option. I think they were even mentioned in a thread by New Yorker writer Jia Tolentino that kept getting passed around as ways to help. Don't give your money to them. The Salvation Army has been trying to clear its name after anti-gay internal documents leaked and has had some pro-LGBTQ moments to show for it while at the same coming out against same-sex marriage... But I remain unconvinced, especially since one of their treatment centers is currently under investigation by the New York City Commission on Human Rights for discriminating transgender patients. They need to roll out anti-discrimination measures to ALL of their facilities, or it's just hollow publicity and shameless attempts to get us to give to those damn Santas again. There are also anecdotal accounts of what it's like staying in a Salvation Army shelter for women, and it's not good. Check out one trans woman's account here. She mentions that trans women are often punished more severely and for longer periods of times than cis women.

While I would put a question mark next to Salvation Army and say there's a possibility they might do some good with your money, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GIVE TO SAMARITAN'S PURSE. THE HEAD FUCKIN' HATES US. Want proof? Plug in "Samaritan's Purse" + "Gay" into google. I'll wait. Or just check out some of the headlines from Pink News's coverage. He literally called gay people "the enemy," y'all. You wanna be my enemy? Fine by me. You ain't getting my money, and I will tell everyone I know to donate their money elsewhere. This creep's name is Franklin Graham, he is the son of Billy Graham, and he has declared himself our enemy. So fuck him and fuck his charity. They probably don't let gay ppl sleep on their shitty cots (idk if they're even providing cots and what the work they're doing in Houston, but I wouldn't be surprised if they treated gay and trans* people like shit). Oh, also, he endorsed Tr**p so...

So do what Jack Antonoff and Ruby Rose did and donate to the Montrose LGBTQ Fund. They're almost at their goal! We sadly can't trust some of these religious charities to take care of our people, so we HAVE to take care of our own. The New York Times included it in a list of local organizations to give to for Harvey relief, and any of those organizations listed would be great. They also list some international organizations, but it's always better to give local in these situations!
