- Soon after, the National Enquirer reported that Richard Simmons was transitioning to a woman and was calling himself "Fiona"
- Simmons' rep immediately denied that he was transitioning (Click here for the ONTD post)
- Simmons sued for defamation in May 2017
- Judge Gregory Keosian stated that being misidentified as transgender isn't inherently defamatory in the eyes of the law and dismissed the case
