- THR has an interview with Sharknado producer David Latt about the casting of "Hollywood's D-list answer to a federal jobs-growth program."
- They couldn't get a lead actor cast until after John Heard (RIP) signed up to play the barfly in the first movie, followed by Tara Reid. Before then, they had tried to get Kevin Dillon, Dave Foley, Seth Green, John Stamos, and Fred Durst, whom they also offered the role of director, and Ian Ziering, who took the job in the end.
- The franchise became a haven for D-listers, but they still couldn't get Sarah Palin for the role of president in the 3rd installment, so Ian Ziering suggested his bro, Donald Trump. They sent a contract to his currently-under-FBI-investigation attorney, Michael D. Cohen, who told them they'd have to get back to them because Trump was considering a serious run for the presidency: oh hell no. So, they gave the role to Mark Cuban!
- Latt said that after the announcement, they immediately heard from Trump's lawyer: "He basically said, 'How dare you? Donald wanted to do this. We're going to sue you! We're going to shut the entire show down!'" Cohen says he has no recollection of this. Sharknado may have more credibility, though.
