Producer Rob Lee (the Ring, the Grudge, the Departed) :
* changes are obvious because it's an interpretation of that story in a different culture.
* First time that he is seeing negative press for one of his adaptations.
* Death Note is not set in Japan, so he doesn't understand the criticism.
* Changes were necessary to appeal to the US or to the English-language market.
* No one criticized the casting of "the Ring" in 2002.
* Saying "whitewashing" is offensive because "one of our three leads is African-American."
* Dont criticize before seeing the movie first.
