- Netflix is once again coming under fire for whitewashing
- This follows controversy from Iron Fist and Deathnote
- Their upcoming series 'Legend of The Monkey' stars no Chinese actors/actresses
- The series is based on the chinese classic 'Journey to the West'. The source material is so popular there are constant remakes in form of movies and tv series every couple of years in China
- The lead character is played by Eurasian actor, Chai Hansen who is half-Thai, there are also 2 Maori actors
- The original team consisted of all men but they've changed this, with half the team being woman.
- None of them protary the characters anywhere near past renditions
Something's missing from the cast of Legend of the Monkey King, based on the Chinese fable. But what 😐 http://pic.twitter.com/aPH5ggsSdB

In case if you were wondering about the opinions of Chinese people in Chinese aka the TRUE, REAL-EST chinese ppl /s here are posts from weibo via the article
- "Please respect our traditional Chinese culture,"
- "Can we take a show like Harry Potter and turn it into a Chinese series for revenge?"
- "I really hate it when foreigners do not understand Chinese culture...and tamper with it,"
- "I'm starting a Beijing version of Romeo and Juliet,"
Twitter 1 2 3
ONTD, do you feel that is it ok to substitue one POC for another?
Netflix has quickly gone up my shit-list. I'm glad I decided not to subscribe.
