'Walking Dead' Showrunner Promises 'Accelerated Pace' in Season Eight

Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple has promised that the pace of the show will pick up next season.

Viewers have complained about the tediously slow pace of season seven, which saw overall viewership drop over the course of the season to an average of 11.58 million viewers. While still one of the top-rated shows on TV, that's significantly down from an average of 13.15 million viewers in season six.

"The turn of the story is really going to dictate the structure of the story and the speed of the story. The things that they are getting into demand a more kinetic narrative. The pace is accelerated by virtue of the things that they're up to...There isn't quite as much time to dig into anything but prosecuting the war", Gimple told The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans have also been irritated by the high number of episodes that have only featured one or two main cast members, and Gimple was asked if that would change next season:

With the accelerated pace you mentioned, will there be more episodes with everyone in it like the finale?

"Yes, there will be. It's just where the story is going to. That presents all sorts of narrative and production challenges."
